How to Build a World Class Engineering Team
Acorns + Match Relevant
How we helped them grow from 12 to 50 employees
When we first met Acorns - a Mobile Startup in California, they had 12 employees and a big dream. The market they were targeting seemed wide open for growth and their idea for investing seemed surprisingly simple.
The Value Proposition
We sat down with the founders to understand their vision and how their mobile platform could change how people invested by “rounding up the change” of daily credit / debit card purchases. Its simplicity was intriguing and even more fascinating was this concept of investing systematically as you live your life.
Jeff and Walter seemed committed to building the best possible product and in order to achieve this it would need to start with a world class team of software engineers and designers. The goal was to build a team within 12 months that could deliver a scalable mobile first app with award winning design and functionality.
We began our journey by understanding the problem their product was solving, put together a manuscript that told their story and became an extension of their voice into the technical community. We knew that the world class Talent they sought would need to come from inside and outside the talent pool of California so we left no stone unturned. We utilized social media, Match Relevant’s Search Platform and our deep talent network to evangelize Acorns.
Acorns grew from 12 to 50 employees within the first 12 months and today employs 80 full-time hires. We started by first understanding their vision and together helped build their team of world class software engineers, web developers and mobile designers. On April 14th, 2015 Acorns raised $23 Million in their Series C round to continue growing internationally in 2015.
